Tips to Get Free Web Traffic

Every web publisher dreams of receiving free, targeted traffic to his or her site. In this day of paid traffic generation, its something of a challenge to attract free traffic. The good news, however, is that it can be done -- and it can be done "legally". By legal, I mean the tips below are white hat. They won't get you accused of spamming nor will the search engines ban you for the practices. Ten Free Traffic Tips 1. Participate in a joint venture giveaway. Working with a group of other web publishers, you create a giveaway in which each member donates a gift. This is usually a digital product that can be downloaded, or a membership in a site, or perhaps a web service. Everyone promotes the giveaway to the members of their email list or to their other contacts. When visitors come by to collect the gift you are offering, you ask for their email address. Not only do you get the traffic to your we site, but you end up with a collection of addresses that you can contact later. Visit this link for more information about joint venture giveaways. 2. Participate in Yahoo! Answers. Answer questions that fall into your area of expertise, and include a link to your web site or blog where additional information can be found. Be sure that the information is relevant, and do not over do this or you will be accused of spamming. 3. Join forums that are related to your web site's content. Make forum postings, being sure that all postings are relevant and contain good content. Focus on being helpful to other members, rather than trying to attract visitors to your site. Include a link to your web site in your signature, if the forum rules permit. 4. Make an email signature that contains an advertisement and link to your web site. Every email you send contains an invitation to visit your site or blog. 5. Publish Squidoo Lenses and Hub Pages. Write about content that is relevant to your web site. Include a link to your site in the articles. 6. Write articles in your area of expertise. Publish them at ezinearticles.com. You can include a signature and live link at the bottom of every article you submit. 7. Create one or more blogs. You can use free blogging services like Blogger, or you can use a self hosted blog like WordPress or Movable Type. Post regularly and contain links to your web sites. The search engines pick up blogs must faster than they do web sites. 8. Find other web site publishers with related content, and arrange to exchange links with them. For best results, have the link's anchor text be a keyword related to your site. For example, if you have a photography site, rather than having your link partner link to Sam's Photo Corner, have the text in the link read "digital photography." 9. Submit your site to the social bookmarking sites like StumpleUpon. Be sure to submit only quantity sites and be sure to bookmark or vote on other people's content as well. To do otherwise will get you banned. 10. Create a video about your web site or your product. Upload it to YouTube and make it public so other people can see it. Even better, create a video about something funny or controversial and hope that it goes viral. A viral video is one that other people find so entertaining that they pass it around. There you have ten ways to attract free, targeted traffic to your web site.
