Silent Unity Praying for You

By June Campbell

For anyone who truly believes in the power of affirmative prayer, Silent Unity is a resource and service worth experiencing.

My introduction to Silent Unity came about a year ago. I was distraught regarding a family crisis. A friend left me a message saying that she had given a prayer request to Silent Unity. She explained that Silent Unity is a prayer service of the Unity Church; when Silent Unity receives a prayer request, trained prayer associates conduct affirmative prayers on your behalf.

I found the concept comforting, and was touched that my friend had taken this action. I have made prayer requests since then, but myself as well as for others.

Unity is a new thought church founded in the late 1800s. The head office, or Unity Village, is located in Kansas City, MO, USA. Later, founding members Charles and Myrtle Filmore introduced the prayer service in the first decade of the 20th century.

Initially, the prayer ministry was available as a telephone service. Today it is accessible by telephone or on the web by email. Telephone calls are answered by, "Hello, how may I pray with you today?"

The web site reads: "the prayers of Silent Unity are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More than 1.5 million calls are now received annually, with 2 million calls projected annually by 2012."

Silent Unity charges nothing for the prayer service, and is available to persons around the globe. Donations are welcome but not required.

Contributor's Note

While not a member of the Unity Church or any other church, I am a strong believer in positive, affirmative prayer and meditation.
