Goodbye Michael Crichton
By June Campbell of Nightcats Multimedia Productions
On November 4, best selling author and film maker Michael Crichton succumbed to cancer. Crichton is credited with selling more than 150 million copies of his books worldwide. Arguably, he was the world's leading writer of techno-thrillers and medical science mysteries. His greatest skill, according to his fans, may have been his outstanding ability to present science to the lay person, and to do it in such an entertaining fashion that the reader received an education without the pain sometimes associated with learning. Born in Chicago in 1941, Michael Crichton graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1969. While studying, he had written novels using a pen name. The same year he graduated, his first best seller, The Andromeda Strain was published. This techno-thriller about scientists encountering a killer organism accidentally brought to earth from outer space was Crichton's first novel to be made into a movie. Over the years, the author turned out numerous techno-thriller novels, including The Terminal Man, The Great Train Robbery, Congo, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Rising Sun, Disclosure, Timeline, Prey, State of Fear and Next. Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World were made into top-grossing films under the direction of Steven Spielberg. Crichton co-wrote the screen play for Jurassic Park and for Twister, a movie thriller about a tornado. Over the years, the writer received numerous awards and recognitions, including an Emmy for his work with NBC's popular drama, ER. Apparently Crichton fans have one more novel to look forward to. His last book is expected to be published in 2009. The topic remains to be seen. Please see Memorium for Michael Crichton at this link.

I don't get the chance to read as much as I once did. I have read 3 or 4 of the novels you mentioned here. May have to add some of the others on my list of titles to read in the future.
