eBay for Canadians for Dummies Book Review

eBay For Canadians for Dummies by Marsha Collier and Bill Summers (2008) provides a thorough overview of everything Canadians need to know to buy or sell on eBay. Written in the typical Dummies fashion with the familiar yellow and black cover, this book is a valuable resource for Canadians, given that much of the available information about eBay applies to the US. Canadian buyers and sellers trying to use eBay.ca have usually had to figure things out on their own using information written for eBay.com as a guide. Although much is the same on both eBays, there are some differences for those of us living north of the 49th parallel. This book therefore fills a distinct need for Canadians wanting to get started with this auction giant. The content includes an general overview of Ebay.ca, tips on doing research either as a buyer or seller, eBays special features, reporting problems, eBay safety, the eBay community and more. Although I have bought items on eBay many times, until recently, I have never placed an eBay auction. Using this book as my guide, I placed three auctions resulting in two highly successful sales in which I made a good profit. I'm not saying you couldn't figure out how to do this without the book, but having the book available made things a lot easier. The only drawback I see is that eBay.ca changed some of its policies a couple of weeks ago -- making a bit of the information outdated. That of course is the downside of any print publication. It is almost impossible for a printed manual to keep up with the rapidly changing events in the online world. Nevertheless, I heartily recommend this took to any Canadian wanting to explore the mysteries of eBay. |
